TRAVEL INFORMATION TO OUR VILLA.

TIMING: Our self guided bike tours start on Saturdays, depending on availability, from 1 April to 31 October. Arrivals are from 12 Noon until 6pm and departures are by 10am.

LOCATION: We are based in the South of France, in the village of Taillades, in the Luberon Regional Park, in the Department of the Vaucluse, Provence. We are 15 Kms South of Gordes & 30 Kms south east of Avignon.
We would highly recommend that you hire a car whilst here in order for you to get the most from your stay at our self catering villa. It helps with getting to the shops, services and the nearby restaurants, with lots just a 5 to 10 mins drive away. It's also handy should you want an afternoon off the bike to explore some the excellent sights just a little further afield, and of course should you be unlucky and get a rare spell of bad weather.

TRANSPORT LINKS - OUR TRAVEL SUGGESTION:
A plane to Marseille or the French high speed trains (TGV) to Avignon are the best travel options.
Once at these terminals you can hire a car fairly cheaply (circa 200 € for a 6 day hire).

BY AIR & THEN ROAD:
There are frequent international flights (including low cost) to Marseille, Montpellier & Nice airports (and Avignon & Nimes to a lesser extent). Avignon airport is 30 mins away, Marseille airport is an easy 50 mins motorway journey away, Nimes 1h10, Montpellier 1h30 & Nice is 2h25 by motorway.

Eurostar - https://goo.gl/WR5a3f

From the UK: Frequent Eurostar / TGV trains leave from the UK (St Pancras & Ashford) to Lille or Paris, a second train will then take you to Avignon.
If travelling via Paris you will arrive at the "Gare du Nord" train station and you will need to get the metro to the "Gare de Lyon". About an hour's transfer via the metro.
It's easier if you can go via Lille (Northern France) as you simply change platform for your 2nd train to Avignon.
The TGV trains are a nice way to travel as they are quite comfortable, the journey from the UK should take approx 6hrs from St Pancras.
From April to October - Mon, Fri and Sat only - there are Eurostar / TGV trains that travel directly to and from London to Avignon (with no stops & no change needed) - takes 5h50.
In July & August, additionnal Eurostar services direct from London to Avignon are on Thursdays & Sundays.

TGV Trains from Paris: Trains leave Charles de Gaulle airport & Gare de Lyon train station to Avignon TGV station. Bookings must be made before you travel, but can not be made more than 3 months in advance.
Make sure your travel to Avignon TGV station (and not Avignon SNCF central station) as that is where the hire cars are.
Once at Avignon high speed train (TGV) station we are an easy 35-55 minute drive away.

HIRE CARS:
Hire cars are easily available at all the airports and Avignon TGV station. It's best to book in advance.

As an idea a 7-day car hire for a small Peugeot 106 sized car should cost circa 200 €.
7 day car hire for a medium Golf sized car should cost circa 250 €.

SOME TRIPADVISOR REVIEWS FOR OUR VILLA BASED PROVENCE BIKE TRIPS:

Would thoroughly recommend the experience to others.
"We are just back home from a fantastic week with family in Neil and Nat's lovely cycle villa with a good-sized pool in Taillades. It's only a short distance from Avignon, so we found it very easy and pleasant to travel on the Eurostar service that runs direct from London via Ashford to Avignon in the summer, with a rental car from the station."

"We took Neil's advice and hired a car, which allowed us to travel into Avignon and to Mont Ventoux. Several car hire companies have outlets at the Avignon TGV station which is 40 minutes' drive from the house."
